BOE CANDIDATE FORUM hosted by the SOUTH ORANGE/ MAPLEWOOD Community Coalition on Race

Thank you to the South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race for hosting Monday night’s Board of Education Candidate Forum. We appreciated the chance to talk about strengthening integration in our schools, building community trust through transparency, meeting more family needs, and measuring success not just by placement but by how well students are supported in the classroom — so that achievement and opportunity gaps truly close over time.

We also discussed several other important topics, including the Columbia High School Annex, supporting students through the middle-to-high school transition, addressing mental health at the high school level, and expanding access to AP courses for more students of color.
